About Bullard

Bullard, Texas, traces its roots back to 1870 when John H. and Emma Erwin Bullard established a campsite in the area. The town officially began in 1881 when the Bullards donated land for a railroad right-of-way and a depot. Initially named Etna, the settlement was later renamed Bullard in honor of its founders. The arrival of the Kansas and Gulf Short Line Railroad in 1884 spurred growth, transforming Bullard from a small rural community into a thriving agricultural center. Throughout the 20th century, Bullard remained a close-knit farming town, known for its production of fruits, vegetables, and later, roses. In recent decades, Bullard has experienced significant growth as a suburban community, attracting residents who appreciate its small-town atmosphere while enjoying proximity to larger cities like Tyler.

Climate

Bullard, Texas, experiences a humid subtropical climate, characteristic of much of the southeastern United States. Summers are long, hot, and humid, with average high temperatures often reaching the mid-90s Fahrenheit (around 35°C) in July and August. Winters are generally mild, though brief cold snaps can occur, with average lows in January dipping to around 37°F (3°C). The town receives ample rainfall throughout the year, averaging about 46 inches (1,170 mm) annually, with spring and fall being the wettest seasons. Snowfall is rare but not unheard of. Spring and fall are typically pleasant, with mild temperatures and lower humidity, making them popular seasons for outdoor activities. The climate supports a long growing season, contributing to the region’s agricultural heritage.
